Delhi Police Calls for Road Safety Clubs in Schools
Location:(Delhi)

Delhi Traffic Police wants the Education department to pay special attention to government school students and has thereby asked schools to appoint a Road Safety Coordinator to sensitise students to curb underage driving.

"At present, we have 350 schools as Road Safety Club members and we are striving to enrol more. But many schools are reluctant to consider the proposal put forth by Road Safety cell to organise various educational programmes for benefit of school children and to enrol them as club members," the Delhi Police said in its letter written to the Education department.

During a recent drive, Delhi Traffic Police found 176 school children driving motor vehicles without adequate permit.

"Involvement of school children, Parent Teacher Association and school authorities would go a long way in inculcating road safety habits by students and reduction of road accidents in Delhi," the Delhi police said.
